Be Ready for Rain, Ice and Snow Later this Week

Be Ready for Rain, Ice and Snow Later this Week
John Bobel
January 31, 2022

A significant storm system later this week will have the potential to bring us:

  • Widespread rain Tuesday night through Thursday
  • The heaviest rain is expected to occur during the day Thursday
  • Total precipitation amounts of 2.50-3.50″ expected
  • Flooding is possible with the heavy rain, especially by Thursday, and subsequent river flooding is possible through the weekend
  • Cold air will transition the rain to a wintry mix from north to south Thursday afternoon and night
  • Impactful amounts of glaze will be possible from freezing rain, with the heaviest amounts in southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky
  • Sleet and snow are expected to be secondary concerns, with only minor accumulations
  • The storm exits by Friday morning

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued roughly along and north of a line from Hartford to Louisville to Bedford. That does not mean that there will be no impacts south of the watch. The watch is placed where the most significant impacts are expected.
