The Lexington Division of Emergency Management has reopened its search for an EM-PIO.

SALARY

The minimum salary is $49,474.88 annually.
This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime; however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to inform and engage the residents of Lexington by creating content using all forms of communications for the Division of Emergency Management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the job
  • Four (4) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience
  • Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Researches and creates emergency messaging and other content for LFUCG¿s communication efforts to include print, radio, television, social media, internal/external websites, special publications and alert and notification platforms
  • Creates and edits photographs, graphics and video segments for websites, social media and other internal and external channels
  • Reviews drafted materials; edits as required to ensure accuracy and completeness; makes revisions and corrections as needed
  • Develop, maintain, update and deploy messaging through all available public channels to increase public awareness of LFUCG programs, events, threats or emergencies
  • Attends meetings, news conferences and field sites as a media representative and liaison for assigned LFUCG divisions, departments and outside agencies
  • Organizes, coordinates, and/or assists with events
  • Attends ongoing training to improve skills, practices, and systems
  • Operates and manages audio/visual computer software
  • Serves as spokesperson for the Division of Emergency Management, including the preparation of talking points and key messages and preparing other staff members to speak as subject matter experts
  • Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

  • FEMA Basic PIO class E/L0105, FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, 300 and CPR/First Aid/AED certification within the six (6) month probationary period and maintained as a condition of continued employment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available for on-call duty.
  • All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A candidate that would be successful in this position and best suited for the Division of Emergency Management, must be proficient in the following:

  • Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher.
  • Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Indesign, Audition, Premiere Pro, Acrobat and/or other similar photo, video and audio editing software systems.
  • Website publishing systems. Proficiency with WordPress is preferred.
  • Graphic design for social & print media content
  • Still photography
  • Video recording

Candidates may be required to demonstrate their proficiency with portfolio examples of completed works. The portfolio may be website(s) based.
