With April being National Safe Digging Month, the weather getting warmer, and people staying home for safety, this could lead to some home projects being started. Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company want to make sure that residents get in contact with Kentucky 811 to ensure their underground lines are marked so that they can proceed with those home projects.
Kentucky law requires all excavators to have their lines marked in advance! Failing to get your lines marked prior to starting your project gives the Kentucky Public Service Commission the authority to fine you for not following the requirements of the Kentucky statute.
If you do not get your lines marked and proceed with your project, punishment for violating the statute range from a $1,250 fine for the first violation, to $2,000 for a second violation, and $4,000 for every violation that proceeds.
If you have a project in mind, you can access Kentucky 811 through the website “811Now, The website requires one to fill out a simple request form. You can also dial 8-1-1. These options are available 24/7.
