Back To School Mask Policies

Back To School Mask Policies
John Bobel
August 5, 2021

In this unusual year, you might now know what policies are in place for COVID-19 this school year. With new cases on the rise, it may be more important than ever to know what policies are in place. So here are the rules for Lexington area schools and colleges, in relation to masks, so that you can know how they are keeping your kids safe.

Things move rapidly during these events, so things may change. In the event that they do links to the schools will be shared so that you can find updates.

Colleges

BLUEGRASS COMMUNITY TECHNICAL COLLEGE

BCTC has discontinued their limited points of entry and check-in stations, and will no longer be checking temperatures on campus. All individuals on campus, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask indoors. Social distancing is no longer required.

Here’s the BCTC guidance on masks.

TRANSYLVANIA UNIVERSITY

All students, employees, and visitors will be required to wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status. Unvaccinated students will have to undergo biweekly testing. Student athletes must either be fully vaccinated or take a weekly PCR test, which is paid for by the student. Transylvania is strongly urging that students and employees get the vaccine.

Here’s the Transylvania University guidance on masks

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY

The University of Kentucky strongly urges students to get the vaccine if possible, and is offering it for students. The unvaccinated will have to wear masks if they are present on campus, unless they are eating. They self-screen on a daily basis. These students will also have to undergo testing when they return to campus, and monthly testing after. If a student test positive they will be required to quarantine. At this time vaccinated students do not have to screen, get tested, or wear a mask on campus.

K12

FAYETTE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

FCPS is requiring that students wear a mask in schools. This will also extend to employees, contractors, and visitors regardless of vaccination status.

Here’s the FCPCS guidance on masking in schools.

LEXINGTON CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

The Diocese of Lexington has declared that students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, will wear masks in the school until Labor Day.

Here’s the Lexington Catholic High School and Catholic Parochial Schools guidance on masking

SAYRE SCHOOL

The Sayre School has made it clear that they will announce their indoor masking plans on August 6th. Masks are not required outdoors, and the school will resume field trips.
