The following news release comes to us from our Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) partners.
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP), located on the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD), will conduct a test of its Public Address (PA) system on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nearby residents are not expected to hear the tones and announcements, but if so, should ignore any directives contained in the announcements.
The PA system provides tones and announcements only for workers at the BGCAPP site. The testing of the PA system is part of the current phase of the project called systemization where equipment and processes are put through a series of tests to ensure their functionality leading into main plant operations.
BGCAPP will safely and efficiently destroy 523 tons of chemical agents stored at BGAD. Construction of the facility that will destroy nerve agent was completed Oct. 28, 2015, and the project is now fully in the systemization phase. Operations at this facility are scheduled to begin in 2020 and end in 2023.
