The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Weather Plan has been activated due to the forecast of extreme hot temperatures in Lexington. This plan will remain in effect through Tuesday, June 19, 2018. The plan is activated anytime the temperature is expected to exceed 90 degrees so that people experiencing homelessness in Lexington have access to a cool, secure shelter.
The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters on Lextran. Anyone needing assistance can dial 2-1-1, text their zip code to 898211 or visit uwbg211.org for locations of shelters and other resources in Lexington and the surrounding counties.
The Compassionate Caravan will be transporting individuals to shelters as well as delivering water, food, and supplies to those in the heat both Saturday and Sunday. The HopeMobile will be doing transportation services to shelters, providing water, food, and other supplies Monday through Friday.
Watering/cooling stations will be located at New Life Day Center, the Hope Center and the Catholic Action Center. These agencies will be in need of bottled water, sunscreen and hats. Please drop off any donations directly to these locations.
