Expect rain and storms for most of Thursday

Expect rain and storms for most of Thursday
John Bobel
February 16, 2023

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are ongoing this morning, but some locations may see a break in storm activity later this morning. Locations along and south of the parkways may see a continual flow of showers and thunderstorms through the day. The main window for severe weather comes later this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front, where damaging winds will be the primary hazard, but hail and tornadoes are also on the table. The cold front will pass through the region from west to east, pushing all severe weather hazards out of our area by later this evening. Areas west of I-65 will be clear of severe weather much earlier than areas to the east.

Locations that see repetitive rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms today could potentially have localized flooding. The flood watch is in effect for counties across southeastern KY through late tonight. Rainfall amounts could range between 2 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts possible.
