National Love Your Pet Day is an unofficial holiday which is celebrated annually on February 20th. The purpose of this holiday is to encourage pet owners to spend some time with their pets and show them the love and affection they deserve. It doesn’t matter if you own a cat, dog, bird, fish or reptile, today is the day to pamper them and show them how much they mean to you.

There’s no better way to show your pet that you really care about them than to make sure they’re ready for an emergency or disaster by making an emergency kit for them. Some extra food, water, a leash, carrier, water and feeding bowls, medicines, toys and copies of veterinary records will make it easier to leave your home if you have to and seek shelter elsewhere.

Think ahead and know where you’d go in case of an emergency. It may be a friend’s home, neighbor’s place or a pet-friendly hotel.  But plan ahead. Don’t leave your pets behind.

Here’s more on what y0u need to put in your pet’s emergency kit.
