
The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Fayette County until 5:15pm.
Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area.
Some locations that will experience flooding include…Lexington, Georgetown, Frankfort, Versailles, Meadowthorpe, Dunbar High School, Thoroughbred Acres, Cardinal Hill, Cadentown and Northland.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms and localized flooding will be possible. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
