How to report utility outages and breaks

How to report utility outages and breaks

With the recent ice storm and winter weather, it’s important to know how to report outages and service interruptions. While most utility companies have toll free telephone numbers, others have websites or phone apps that can be faster in bringing information to the utility’s repair desk.

Electric Service

Lexington is served by two utility companies: KU (Kentucky Utilities) and BGE (Blue Grass Energy). Remember that when utilities report customer outages, one customer can be a home, a business or a large company/entity that distributes its own power.  A hospital, arena, warehouse or manufacturing company can be ONE outage, even though it can serve several hundred people at once.

KU – Kentucky Utilities

Report an outage by phone: Call 800-981-0600 (fast path 1-1)
Report an outage by website: https://lge-ku.com/outages
Text an outage by text message: Text OUTAGE to 454358. Make sure your mobile phone number in the KU My Account system is up-to-date.
KU has mobile device apps that can be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

BGE – Blue Grass Energy

Report an outage by phone: 1-888-655-4243
Outages can be viewed on the BGE outage website: http://outage.bgenergy.com/
KU has mobile device apps that can be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play Store.

Water

Kentucky American Water

Report a leak or water main break by phone: Call 1-800-678-6301
Report a leak or water main break online: https://emergency.amwater.com/pre-login

Natural Gas

Columbia Gas

If you smell natural gas in your home or workplace, GET OUT IMMEDIATELY! Don’t use electrical equipment, start a car or open windows. Once you’re safely out of the building, call 9-1-1 to report a gas leak. Then call Columbia Gas at  1-800-432-9515 and wait for crews to arrive.  More about natural gas safety at the Columbia Gas website: https://www.columbiagasky.com/safety/natural-gas-safety/report-gas-leaks
