I-64 Kentucky River Bridge Lane Closures Start Monday

October 8, 2021

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a lane closure beginning Monday, October 11, on Interstate 64 in Franklin County. KYTC bridge engineers will be performing an in-depth inspection of the I-64 bridges over the Kentucky River (mile point 55.5) located between U.S. 127 and U.S. 60 exits.

Beginning on Monday, October 11, the right lane of I-64 East will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews anticipate completing the inspection of the eastbound bridge by Friday, October 15. Once the eastbound inspection is complete, crews will mobilize to the westbound bridge.  Beginning on Monday, October 18, the right lane of I-64 West will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews anticipate completing the inspection of the westbound bridge by Friday, October 22.

The twin bridges over the Kentucky River were built in 1963. An arms-length inspection of the critical bridge members is required every two years. The 2019 inspection was completed concurrently with the bridge painting project.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  You can also get traffic information for the District 5 counties at facebook.com/KYTCDistrict5 and twitter.com/KYTCDistrict5.
