The Ice Storm Warning has been CANCELED. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10am.
Expect mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. If you must travel, slow down and use caution when driving.
The Ice Storm WARNING is in effect for most of central Kentucky, including Lexington. Stay weather aware as the changeover from rain to freezing rain and sleet is expected sometime mid-afternoon.
Heavy mixed precipitation is possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations of one-half to 2 inches, and ice accumulations of one-quarter of an inch with locally higher amounts possible.
Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. The hazardous conditions could impact those travelers during the morning or evening commutes, especially on Thursday.
Please note that these types of winter storms are extremely complex and very challenging to forecast. Slight variations in the path of the system can result in large differences in the weather we experience. Stay up to date with the latest forecasts.
