
The flood advisory has been cancelled at 3:00pm
A flood advisory is in effect for Lexington/Fayette County until 3:30pm
At 1248 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen in Nicholasville and Lexington metro and with high rainfall rates from more heavier showers moving in, low lying flooding and urban flooding is possible.
Some locations that will experience flooding include…Lexington, Nicholasville, Chevy Chase, U K Arboretum, Fayette Mall, Veterans Park, Cardinal Hill, Northland, Cadentown and Meadowthorpe.
Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely and have them relay your report to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
