Lexington Activates the Winter Weather Response Plan for Homeless

Lexington Activates the Winter Weather Response Plan for Homeless
John Bobel
February 10, 2023

The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention is extending the activation of the Emergency Winter Weather Plan. The community’s Emergency Winter Weather Plan will be in effect through tonight, Friday, February 10 through Monday  morning (February 13th).

The attached Emergency Winter Weather Plan provides a coordinated response for times when extreme cold weather creates additional, immediate needs for expanded capacity to assist people experiencing homelessness in Lexington. Extreme temperatures often force persons to seek shelter who may not otherwise seek assistance.

Shelters have added capacity to accommodate those in need. Please see the attached detailed plan for specific shelter processes and availability. Lexington providers have made arrangements to welcome all eligible persons, including former residents under suspension for behavioral or programmatic reasons. Exceptions may include individuals suspended for violence, and decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Providers and the OHPI will collaborate to ensure emergency shelter is available for anyone who seeks it.
