Lexington Emergency Management takes part in today’s national Integrated Public Alert & Warning system webinar. Our EM staff has been involved in system testing for many months and are getting closer to having the system work throughout the county. This will allow local emergency managers to issue alerts to cell phones, broadcast stations and other warning networks.
For the past several years, federal, state and local emergency management partners have been working to perfect and deploy the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System or IPAWS.
These are alert or warning messages about severe weather, amber alerts or community/national emergencies.
More information about IPAWS is available at: https://www.fema.gov/informational-materials.
