LEXINGTON, KY. (January 26, 2026) – Lexington Emergency Management will keep the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) open until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, following Mayor Gorton’s extension of the city’s State of Emergency.
Residents are asked to stay off the streets and limit travel. This helps street crews and first responders to work quickly and effectively.
An Extreme Cold Warning for Lexington begins at 7:00 p.m. EST today, January 26, and continues through 11:00 a.m. EST, Tuesday, January 27. Wind chills as low as 19 degrees below zero are expected and remain a threat to residents. If possible, stay inside and out of the wind. If you must be outside, wear several layers and cover every inch of exposed skin with a hat, gloves, scarf, or other appropriate face covering.
Director of Emergency Management Rob Larkin asks residents to check on neighbors, friends, and family.
“The prolonged extreme cold is very dangerous, especially if someone needs extra help in these conditions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help,” Larkin said.
