Lexington is prepared for winter weather this Halloween weekend, although the outlook is not too scary. .
Forecasts are calling for a wintry mix, including some snowflakes and sleet tonight for Halloween.
Even though it’s early in the season, Lexington has plenty of salt on hand, with another shipment expected next week, said Albert Miller, the city’s director of the Division of Streets and Roads.
The division will have a crew on duty Friday night and over the weekend to monitor the conditions of bridges and overpasses, Miller said. However, street temperatures are still in the 50s, so roads are less likely to freeze, he added.
Additional crews are on call and could be called in if conditions worsen.
As always, motorists should be aware of weather conditions, exercise caution and allow for sudden stops, especially tonight when trick-or-treaters are out in neighborhoods.
Traffic in the downtown area is expected to be heavy tonight, with two Garth Brooks concerts underway in Rupp Arena.
