Update 8pm – Cordell Cowans has been located and is safe.

Investigators are working to locate a man suspected of kidnapping his five-year-old stepson. Around 3:18 this afternoon officers responded to the 900-block of North Broadway in reference to a kidnapping and assault. Michael Thomas, 35, assaulted his wife earlier in the day and took the victim’s son, fleeing in a 2003 Red Ford Explorer with Kentucky license plate 094 GJY. The child, five-year-old Cordell Cowans, is around 4 feet tall and 30 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and basketball shorts. An AMBER Alert is pending.
