The LFUCG Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention (OHPI) will activate the Emergency Winter Weather Plan starting the evening of Sunday, March 4. Temperatures overnight will drop below freezing. The plan will be in effect until the morning of Friday, March 8, 2019.
All shelters in the area will add capacity welcoming all eligible people including former residents under suspension for behavioral or programmatic reasons. Exceptions may include individuals suspended for violence and decisions will be made on a case by case basis but providers and OHPI will collaborate to ensure emergency shelter is available for anyone in need.
LexTran will be offering free rides to shelters.
The Hope Center Street Outreach team will also be working evenings. The Catholic Action Compassionate Caravan will be running.
You can reach the Hope Center Street Outreach team for referrals at 859-699-1701. The HopeMobile’s phone number is 859-252-7881. The Compassionate Caravan’s phone number is 859-255-0301. The public can leave messages at both numbers, however, returns calls will not be made.
Anyone needing assistance can dial 2-1-1, text their zip code to 898211, or log onto http://www.uwbg211.org/ for locations of shelters and other resources in Lexington and surrounding counties.
Also please remember, all shelters need to report their capacity, overflow totals, and any emergency needs they may have via text or email by 8:30 am each morning while under the plan. LFUCG will notify the public of any emergency needs that shelters have due to the emergency weather plan activation.
The New Life Day Center has extended hours under this plan and also individuals can seek shelter during the day at the Catholic Action Center.
