Lexington Emergency Management is pleased to announce the addition of a new outdoor warning siren in Martin Luther King Park. This brings Lexington’s outdoor warning siren network to 34 operational sirens in parks and golf courses.
The new siren is located in the northeast corner of Martin Luther King Park (1625 McCullough Drive). It is now active and will be tested during the monthly siren tests.
Lexington Emergency Management will test the network of outdoor warning sirens tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5, at 10 a.m. Anyone who lives near a park or golf course may hear a series of chimes followed by a voice announcement, “This is a test.”
This is a regularly scheduled test – THERE IS NO EMERGENCY – THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Please do not call 9-1-1 about the siren test.
It is important to remember that the sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors. Sirens are not intended to alert people inside a home, apartment building or business. To stay weather aware, everyone should have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. This includes a NOAA weather radio, registering for weather alerts, and monitoring local forecasts.
Residents of Lexington-Fayette County can sign up for LexAlerts at BeReadyLexington.com. LexAlerts is a free notification system that sends weather alerts via text message, phone call, email, and messages to most assisted listening devices.
