March 7, 2019

A 2010 report by the National Commission on Children and Disasters identified a training gap for emergency responders, first receivers, and emergency management personnel that reduced their effectiveness in responding to pediatric patients and their unique needs/considerations. This course addresses pediatric emergency planning and medical response considerations through a combination of lectures, small group exercises, and a table-top exercise.

Lexington Emergency Management will host the Texas A&M MGT-439 Pediatric Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness here at the Public Safety Operations Center on April 9th and 10th.

This course will provide information on pediatric needs during an emergency to include:

  • Emergency management considerations
  • Planning and response considerations
  • Functional access needs considerations
  • Mass sheltering considerations
  • Pediatric triage considerations
  • Pediatric reunification considerations
  • Pediatric decontamination considerations

This course is designed for:

  • Community and hospital-based emergency managers
  • EMS/Fire personnel
  • Hospital administration and ED personnel
  • Public safety/public health personnel
  • School administrators
  • Private sector health care providers
  • Law enforcement
  • Disaster response personnel
  • Government officials
