It may be April Fools’ Day, but being prepared is no laughing matter! Being prepared before an emergency makes handling the emergency much easier for you and your family. Remember, don’t be scared, be prepared!

Ways to be Prepared

  • Refresh your Home Emergency Kit for the spring.
    • Check dates on food, medication, and any other time-sensitive items.
    • Replace the heavier, winter clothing with lighter items for warmer temperatures.

  • Update your Vehicle’s Emergency Kit.
    • Check dates and replace any food or other time-sensitive items.
    • Make sure to add an umbrella, a rain jacket, or a water-repellent poncho for the rainier seasons.

  • Make sure your Pet’s Emergency Kit is up to date.
    • Check dates and replace any food, treats, water, medication, or other time-sensitive items.
    • Include a recent picture of your pet in case they get lost.

  • Review your Family’s Emergency Communication Plan.
    • Check that the contact information (numbers, addresses) is up-to-date.
    • Go over the plan so every family member understands what to do in an emergency.
