As we’ve seen over the past few years, severe weather (and occasionally severe traffic accidents) can knock out electrical service in any season. Our partners at Kentucky Utilities provide a great service in their online outage map, which shows the location, severity, cause, and estimated time to resolution for each outage on their network. Of course, the online solution is of limited value to you if you can’t use your computer because your power is out – which is why KU also offers a free mobile app with the same functionality. Get it now for Apple iOS, Google Android, or BlackBerry.
As always, you can report an outage by calling KU at (800) 981-0600, 24/7. To report a dangerous or life-threatening situation, such as downed power lines or a transformer fire, call 911.
ETA (Edited to Add): Blue Grass Energy also has an online outage map. I’m not currently aware of mobile apps from BG Energy but their online map loads very quickly on my iPhone. Blue Grass Energy customers can report outages by calling (888) 655-4243 or by completing this online form.
