Updated at 5:45pm – Saturday, January 6
A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to spread across central Kentucky and southern Indiana late Sunday evening.
Precipitation will transition to mostly freezing rain Sunday night and early Monday morning as temperatures gradually warm to near freezing. By mid to late Monday morning, mostly rain is expected.
The greatest threat for snow and ice accumulation is across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky, generally along and north of the Bluegrass Parkway…and especially north of the I-64 corridor. Additionally, given the very cold ground and road temperatures, even if air temperatures warm above freezing Sunday night and Monday, and rain is falling, the water will freeze on frigid ground surfaces, making them slick and hazardous. The Monday morning commute and travel is likely to be impacted. The greatest threat of freezing rain will be Monday from 2 am to 10 am.
People should prepare for the winter weather Sunday night and Monday, and stay updated to the latest forecast.
