According to National Weather Service statistics, central Kentucky’s tornado activity is 88% greater than the national average. While Lexington isn’t in “Tornado Alley,” the map to the right shows the tracks of previous tornado touchdowns in Fayette County.
To help prepare for the arrival of spring severe weather, the annual statewide tornado drill will be held next Tuesday, February 23, at 10:07 a.m. As part of this drill, Lexington’s outdoor warning sirens will sound a test tone and the National Weather Service will broadcast a test message over local radio and television stations. We encourage everyone to participate in the drill by taking shelter just as you would in an actual severe weather outbreak.
