The weather over the last 24 hours has given us a great introduction to Severe Weather Preparedness Month here in Lexington. Hopefully, this was the last severe threat we’ll see from the winter of 2013-2014 – which means it’s time to turn our attention to typical spring weather concerns.
The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management has scheduled the statewide tornado drill for Wednesday, March 5th, at 10:07 a.m. This drill will be broadcast over the NOAA Weather Alert Radio System. If you have a newer weather radio the audible alert will not sound, but you will see the yellow light and the scroll text.
This drill is part of our promotion of March as Severe Weather Preparedness Month. We encourage everyone to participate in the tornado drill and use it as a prompt to practice your emergency plans at work, home, or school.
You can learn more about tornado preparedness on our tornado awareness page and on KYEM’s tornado page.
