Storm Cleanup Ongoing in Lexington

Storm Cleanup Ongoing in Lexington
John Bobel
April 14, 2022

Last night’s storm took down trees and powerlines in Lexington. Several thousand Kentucky Utilities customers remain without power at mid-morning on Thursday. Crews are out, cutting trees, removing debris, installing new poles and power lines. Kentucky Utilities expects most power outages to be restored by this afternoon.

Some things to remember as the storm cleanup continues:

Stay away from downed power lines. Report any outages to Kentucky Utilities at this website. KU Outage Map

If your power remains off, consider moving perishable items from your refrigerator and putting them in a cooler packed with ice. The CDC has some good suggestions about what food can be kept and what should be thrown away. NEVER TASTE FOOD TO SEE IF ITS OK TO EAT.  CDC power outage/food safety guidelines.

If you’re running a generator to keep a refrigeration or other appliances or equipment operating, make sure the generator is at least 20 feet away from your home. More about generator safety.

Don’t use a gas oven, charcoal grill or other non-approved device to heat a room. Safety Information for Space Heaters.
