The novelty has worn off but winter still isn’t finished with us. Looking at the National Weather Service’s current predictions for the next few days, we see another half-inch of snow coming overnight on Friday. This should melt off pretty quickly on Saturday as temperatures rise into the forties during the day.
If you need to get out of the house over the weekend, Saturday is the day to do it. Rain will start overnight on Saturday and continue throughout Sunday, giving us up to an inch of precipitation.
The real problem comes around midnight on Sunday, when the rain is expected to turn to freezing rain and sleet. We should see that through daybreak on Monday, followed by 1-2 inches of snow throughout the day. At this point, we don’t expect enough ice accumulation to drop limbs or power lines, but Monday morning’s commute will be worse than usual for a Monday morning.
We’ll continue to monitor the forecasts and observations over the weekend. Check back with us here, on Twitter (@LexKYEM), and on Facebook (LexingtonKYEM) for the latest weather-related information.
