The Four Stages of Preparedness Denial

The Four Stages of Preparedness Denial
DEM Blogger

1. It won’t ever happen.

2. It won’t ever happen to me.

3. If it does happen to me, I’ll deal with it then.

4. If it does happen to me, there won’t be anything I can do about it.

winter_car_kitIf you’re at the first or second stage, take a few minutes to read up on the sorts of disasters that can threaten Lexington and the Bluegrass. If you’ve moved on to the fourth stage, don’t panic! There is something you can do about it. In fact, you can do several things: make a plan ahead of time so you don’t have to improvise, build a kit so all your tools and supplies are ready, and get involved with community preparedness organizations to improve your skills and support network and to help others progress through the four stages and on to their own personal preparedness!

Thanks to our friends at Woodford County Emergency Management for the Facebook post that inspired this entry.
