US Army responds to incorrect reports of chemical leak at depot

US Army responds to incorrect reports of chemical leak at depot

February 19, 2015

The Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA) began receiving reports at approximately 1:30pm on February 19 concerning social media reports of a chemical leak at the depot.  This story was based on the monthly siren that sounded on Wednesday, the 18th, the fact that Blue Grass Army Depot has been closed this week due to inclement weather, and the small BGCAPP workforce that is currently working.

The Madison County Emergency Operations Center conducts a monthly off-post siren test in conjunction with BGCA conducting an on-post test on the third Wednesday of every month and did so yesterday, 18 February 2015.  The Blue Grass Army Depot, including Blue Grass Chemical Activity has been closed for the entire week of 16 February 2015 due to inclement weather.  The Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant has a small workforce that is currently working.  No chemical operations have been conducted during this timeframe.

BGCA will continue to monitor, inspect, and respond to any chemical related event.
