Weather Alert – Light Snow Showers and Gusty Winds This Evening
DEM Blogger
February 4, 2018

Update: 10:30pm – Sunday, February 4

A band of light snow associated with a cold front will push through central Kentucky and southern Indiana this evening. Temperatures are starting to drop out ahead of the snow band and will continue to steadily fall this evening and overnight. Snow has already moved into southern Indiana, and a visibility of a
half mile was reported at Huntingburg Regional Airport.

Light snow accumulations ranging from a dusting to half an inch are expected, with the higher totals across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. The snow may quickly coat road surfaces, resulting in slick travel conditions this evening. Secondary roads may remain quite hazardous overnight into Monday morning, with temperatures dropping into the teens Monday morning. In addition, winds gusting to 30 mph will result in low visibility in snow. Anyone headed out this evening should take it slow.

The coldest wind chills Monday morning are expected to range from the upper single digits to teens.

Update: 3:45pm – Sunday, February 4

A cold front will move through the region late this afternoon. As it does, temperatures will quickly fall below freezing. Light snow showers are expected to develop along and behind this front. These snow showers will move into southern IN during the early evening hours and quickly traverse central KY, moving out of the Bluegrass region by midnight. Some light snow accumulations of a dusting to half an inch will be possible with these snow showers.

Light accumulations on roadways may result in some slick spots for those headed out and about this evening. In addition, winds gusting to 30 mph could cause reduced visibilities at times. Anyone headed out this evening should use caution and reduce their speed as necessary.
