Wednesday Webinar Series – January

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Empathy is a powerful tool in public communication during disasters. It helps establish a connection with the affected individuals, builds trust, reduces anxiety, humanizes the response effort, fosters unity, and sets a positive tone for cooperation and communication. This, in turn, contributes to a more effective and compassionate overall response to the disaster. Mr. Singer will help attendees better understand empathy, create an empathy statement, and use empathy in crisis communications. More information is available here.

The Wednesday Webinar Series was established to provide Public Information Officers (PIOs) and other communication-related fields with virtual opportunities to address topic-specific issues in quick 1-hour monthly webinars. Monthly topics and featured speakers will be selected and scheduled accordingly to help provide attendees with real-world application to the following: planning and developing a process with clearly defined procedures to gather and provide accurate, timely, and accessible information on an event as it approaches or as it has occurred.
