Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Lexington

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Lexington
DEM Blogger
January 7, 2018

Update at 4pm, Sunday, January 7, 2018

A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will spread across central Kentucky and southern Indiana late this evening through Monday morning. This wintry mix combined with very cold ground and road temperatures will result in potentially hazardous travel conditions, especially for the Monday morning commute.

Freezing rain, sleet, and snow expected. The ice and snow will result in difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute Monday. Total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected, locally up to two tenths of an inch possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations less than one half of an inch expected.

The very cold ground and road temperatures will likely result in slick and icy roads even if surface temperatures are above freezing. This will be particularly true
on secondary, sheltered, and untreated surfaces including parking lots and sidewalks.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.

If you park your car outdoors overnight, be aware that windows, doors and locks may be iced over in the morning.

Consider raising your windshield wipers off your windshield tonight to prevent wipers from being frozen to the glass.

Take your ice scraper indoors with you tonight. You may not be able to get into your car without some scraping tomorrow morning.
