The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has been made aware of temperatures near freezing beginning this evening. Therefore, the community winter weather plan will be in effect beginning this evening and until Thursday morning (October 20th). Forecasts will be monitored throughout the week and an extension of the activation announced as needed.
The attached winter weather plan provides a coordinated response for times when extreme cold weather creates additional, immediate need for expanded capacity to assist people experiencing homelessness in Lexington. Extreme temperatures often force persons to seek shelter who may not otherwise seek assistance.
Shelters have added capacity to accommodate those in need. Please see the attached detailed plan for specific shelter processes and availability. Lexington providers have made arrangements to welcome all eligible persons, including former residents under suspension for behavioral or programmatic reasons. Exceptions may include individuals suspended for violence and decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Providers and the OHPI will collaborate to ensure emergency shelter is available for anyone who seeks it.
