You may be here because you recently encountered a portable message board directing you to our site. If so, welcome! We are the Lexington-Fayette County Division of Emergency Management (DEM), your local government agency for disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.
Four sign boards around town – bearing messages about spring weather, not about zombies – are part of our annual campaign for Severe Storms Preparedness Month. Throughout March, we’re raising awareness about the severe weather hazards that threaten the Bluegrass every year, including thunderstorms and lightning (very, very frightening), high winds, floods, and tornadoes, as well as the power outages that frequently accompany these events. We hope you’ll stay with us throughout the year as we continue to provide information on seasonal threats, general preparedness, and any ongoing major incidents. Follow us here, on Facebook, and on Twitter.
We’d also like to take the opportunity to express appreciation to our partners at the Lexington Police Department for the use of their sign boards. Thank you!
